Friday Freebies 2014

With a passion for the sacred groove and the vibration of the universe, there music resonates on a level that is beyond this realm. With each song they speak truth about the world today, and with each lyric thoughtfulness is brought upon the listener to think deeper about the world around them. Their passion is never fading and is brought to the stage each time they play and with a hunger to spread the hobo groove into the ears of the world, they ride on…..”

Steam Labyrinth by Heat in full via Metal Hammer

“Heat are more than able to match up to the likes of Witchcraft and Graveyard.”
The Sleeping Shaman

“Everything flows with a natural grace as if the band are writing intuitively through telepathic jam sessions.”
Roadburn Festival

Heat are unmistakably taken with a time when all great records came adorned with monochrome swirls and elaborate sleeves depicting worlds of necromancy, witches and cosmic encounters.

Featuring former members of The Hara-Kee-Rees, Samsara Blues Experiment and Grandloom their self-titled debut on Electric Magic Records was a heavy-blues driven journey into the very heart of the 1970s. Which, regardless of your particular predilection for classic rock saw the Berlin five-piece strike every chord.

On their follow up – much like Swedish hard rock revivalists Graveyard and Horisont – Heat continue to revel in the buzz of audacious twin guitar solos, Hammond organs and telepathic band jams.

Driving tracks like ‘Siamese Smile’, ‘Free World’ and ‘Barbarossa’ pack unabashed guitar spectacles atop big drum fills, rolling bass lines and Patrick Fülling’s strutting vocal front, often over extended compositions that run the gamut of twentieth century rock history. Bursting with shuffling bluesy boogies and dark, introspective moments that owe a sizeable riff or two to Deep Purple, Wishbone Ash, Atomic Rooster and Jerusalem Labyrinth is an unstoppable force for fans of British prog, hard US rock and NWOBHM.

Labyrinth will be officially released on 29th August 2014, along with the reissue of the band’s debut (with exclusive new artwork) via  via This Charming Man Records.

Bilocation Records Announces New Signings!

we are very excited to inform you about the latest bandsignings to Bilocation Records:
Ruby The Hatchet (USA)

Since its formation four years ago, RUBY THE HATCHET has quickly gained a reputation as a formidable force, both on record and on stage. Born in a New Jersey basement, the five-piece boasts a riff-centered, hard hitting rock sound that has infected the Philadelphia music scene with a unique blend of psychedelic undertones, wailing vocal melodies and raw-power energy. RUBY THE HATCHET‘s psychedelia-laced power-rock conjures visions of midnight councils and sinister sorcery, appropriating a storm of distorted axe-wielding as a vehicle of enchantment, with seductive songstress Jillian Taylor overlaying a series of bewitching spellbound poetics. In 2012, the band released their debut full length, OUROBOROS, a record that oozed dark and unresolved mystique. RUBY followed up with an ominous two-song EP the following year entitled, THE ELIMINATOR.

LO-PAN: Ohio Riff Bringers Premiere New Tune Via Noisey; Tour With Black Cobra To Commence Next Week

LO-PAN: Ohio Riff Bringers Premiere New Tune Via Noisey; Tour With Black Cobra To Commence Next Week

With a tour supporting Black Cobra just one week away and a brand new record, the fittingly titledColossus, on the horizon, Ohio riff bringers LO-PAN are pleased to uncork opening track, “Regulus,” via Noisey.

Elaborates vocalist Jeff Martin of the tune, “‘Regulus’ is the brightest star in the Leo constellation. It’s a multiple system consisting of four stars. ‘Regulus’ is also Latin for ‘prince’ or ‘little king.’ The song is about a dream I had. In the dream I lived on a planet in the regulus system and the star was about to explode. The planet is about to be destroyed. And I’m reflecting on life as a whole facing the knowledge that I’m about to die basically.”

Adds Noisey: “Colossus is a great name… In one breath it handily evokes images of majesty, grandeur, and past glories… It hints at hard-won battles and blood seeping into foreign sands, of rough-hewn idols and monoliths crumbling into the foaming sea. It paints a pretty goddamn inspiring picture. That being said, on a less romantic level, Colossus also slots neatly into doom’s obsession with really big… things. Ours is a world populated by behemoths and mastodons, dying giants, sea lords, and elder gods, whose exploits and flights of fancy are riffed sweatily into existence by big burly dudes encircled by halos of amplifier tubes. It’s larger than life, and if it’s done right, it’s way too much for your shitty foam earplugs to handle. It’s awesome.”

Check out “Regulus” before your imminent demise, now playing at Vice’s sound portal at THIS LOCATION.

Named for the Colossus of Rhodes – a ninety-six-foot statue of the Greek titan-god of the sun, Helios, constructed in 280 BC to mark a failed siege and the indomitable nature of the Greek city of Rhodes itself – LO-PAN‘s fourth full-length, Colossus, serves as their most personal composition to date and a true testament to their evolution as a band. Having honed their musicianship through perpetual touring and partnering with producer/engineer Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Rosetta, East Of The Wall et al) at his Translator Audio Studio in Brooklyn, the Columbus four-piece knew exactly what they wanted out of this recording. Together they belted out ten smolderingly soulful psalms that reveal just how much they’ve moved beyond their influences to arrive at their own sound – a style built on aggression without caricature, fuzz without cliché, melody without redundancy and their meanest groove to date.

As a precursor to the release of ColossusLO-PAN will take to the streets next week on a gargantuan live excursion alongside San Francisco volume perpetrators, Black Cobra. The trek will commence in Phoenix on August 28th and wind through nearly three dozen cities, with additional LO-PAN headlining shows added to the jaunt. See confirmed dates below.

CROBOT: Unveil Cover Artwork For ‘SOMETHING SUPERNATURAL;’ Fall U.S. Headlining Shows Announced

Something Supernatural cover artwork:

CROBOT will return October 28 with their new album SOMETHING SUPERNATURAL on Wind-up. The central Pennsylvania-based group, praised byPittsburgh Music Magazine as “wild, brutal and sexy all at once” (5/20/14), have revealed the cover artwork in a video–designed by guitarist CHRIS BISHOP–exclusively on today: (HERE).

“All the art was made on 22×30 paper with pen and ink and watercolor,” explains guitarist CHRIS BISHOP. ”I used a lot of inspiration from Alphonse Mucha for the look of the album…And the devil.”

CROBOT are currently in the midst of an east coast summer trek which will hit Brooklyn’s St. Vitus on Wednesday, August 27. Following the east coast run, the group will perform its first-ever west-coast headlining run, including Los Angeles at The Viper Room on Thursday, September 4 (see all dates below).

A band that can rock at all tempos, CROBOT has crafted an album of endless good time rock hooks with SOMETHING SUPERNATURAL. The band worked with the producer Machine (Clutch, Lamb of God, Cobra Starship, Gym Class Heroes) at his Machine Shop studios to perfect their blend of funk, blues, metal and rock and roll. The same team worked on CROBOT’s self-titled EP (LISTEN HERE) praised by Revolver magazine: “…the central Pennsylvania quartet stomps through these four songs with the authority of a group that’s been around for decades, weaving together the deep grooves of stoner rock with grunge, blues, and metal influences” (May 2014). Elsewhere, the Centre Daily Times described the group as, “The American version of Wolfmother, a Kings of Leon on speed” (daily, State College, PA, 2/14/14). Meanwhile, Loudwire called the EP “one of the dirtiest, grooviest discs you’ll hear all year” (5/12/14).

The good-time anthem and first single “Nowhere To Hide” has cracked the Top 20 at radio, climbing to #16 this week with major market support includingSiriusXM OctaneWIIL ChicagoWRIF DetroitKISW SeattleKXXR MinneapolisWIYY BaltimoreWJRR Orlando and WFTK Cincinnati, among others.Watch the video for “Nowhere To Hide” (HERE). Another album highlight is the slow-building groove of “Skull Of Geronimo,” where CROBOT display stellar musicianship and lyrical depth.

CROBOTBRANDON YEAGLEY (lead vocals, harmonica), CHRIS BISHOP (guitar, vocals), JAKE FIGUEROA (bass), PAUL FIGUEROA (drums)–spent the past few years honing their live show and garnering a devoted following from their bombastic U.S. performances at festivals and club shows.  After more high-profile tours with Clutch, The Sword, Truckfighters, Kyng and Kill Devil Hill2014 and 2015 promise to be the biggest for CROBOT yet, with a Top 20song at radio, a new album full of hooks and intelligent songwritingintense live performances and their unique brand of humor.

Here’s the critical reaction for CROBOT so far:

“Rock fans around the planet can likely agree on one thing: There is a sad shortage of good old-fashioned, straightforward guitar riffs on the planet these days. Never fear, however: Pennsylvania band Crobot is out to remedy that with its blend of funk, blues, metal and rock and roll, which its rapidly growing fanbase is comparing to such classic hook-builders as Soundgarden and Queens of the Stone Age.”

–Wendy Geller, YAHOO! (8/12/14

“…for fans of Soundgarden and Queens of the Stone Age.”

–Jeff Miers, BUFFALO NEWS (5/14/14)

“What would happen if the Foo FightersRed Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, Queens of the Stone Age and everything you love about 70’s metal had a love child? Well they did and its name is Crobot. With a stage performance that is wild, brutal and sexy all at once, they’re poised to take as a band that can crossover into many genres and find fans among many musical tastes.”

–Alan D. Welding, PITTSBURGH MUSIC MAGAZINE (5/20/14)

“The love child of Josh Homme and Russell BrandCROBOT crushed their debut at Rock On The Range. Vocalist Brandon Yeagley moved like a man possessed to the heavy bass lines of Jake Figueroa.”

–Daniel DeSlover, EXAMINER, (5/20/14)

“…a soulful and energetic performance.”

–Liz Ramanaud, LOUDWIRE (5/11/14)

Crobot embodies the old school mentality of leaving every ounce of energy on the stage in order to mesmerize the audience. Stirring together the finest riff rattling chord progressions of Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith with the rhythmic funk of Stevie Wonder and 90s heaviness of Rage Against The Machine,Crobot performed in front of a small New York City crowd as if they were Queen headlining Wembley Stadium. On stage, the band’s passionate delivery flooded onto the audience leaving many with gleaming eyes in awe of what they just witnessed. CROBOT’s ability to merge the bombastic thrills of past and present rock music demonstrated something euphoric and transcendent that is desperately lacking in music nowadays.”
